If you plants are wilting and dying, there is a chance they have been infested with the dreaded Ficus Whitefly. This has been happening to ficus trees and hedges in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Florida. This was discovered to be the fig (ficus) whitefly, Singhiella simplex, and is a new US continental pest. Whiteflies are small, winged insects. These insects generally feed on the bottomside of leaves with their “needle-like” mouthparts. Whiteflies can seriously harm host plants by drinking juices from them causing stunging, wilting, yellowing, leaf drop, or even death.
Unfortunately, the leaves from the infected ficus trees begin to turn yellow before the leaves are dropped from the plant. A to Z Environmental Tip: Ficus trees missing leaves are one of the most obvious symptoms of a whitefly infestation.
It is highly recommended that you call A to Z Environmental Services for whitefly pest control. Call today to get a quote for the site (landscape, hedge, large tree, container, production, etc), the size and number of trees, and the surrounding environment before initiating the procedures to control this pest.
