Replacing Your Fuel Tank - The Safe Way with MechanixTrix

If your fuel tank has gone bad, or has encountered a link, it needs to be replaced, which can be an expensive task. Unfortunately, this is a dangerous problem that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. With a few inexpensive materials, you can safely perform this replacement at home! All you need is:

  • Wrenches, sockets, normal hand tools
  • New fuel tank
  • Fuel line
  • Hose clamps
  • Proper gas storage container
  • Floor jack
  • Fire extinguisher!
1. Drain the gas into a proper storage container. *Note: Some cars have a drain cock that is located at the lowest point of the tank. If not - you'll need to remove one of the fuel lines
Pour the gas into a gas can and store it safely. You can pour it into your new tank! - Read more here.
