Principles of Web Design by Abinko

Light on The Design

Unless it is deemed extremely important, use as little flash animation or JavaScript as possible. It is recommended that you NOT use these graphics for important functional aspects of your websites such as for the site menus. Your most vital information need to be made available as text. Flash animation and images hinder download time and actually turn potential guests away.

JavaScript and flash websites are also generally more difficult to attract natural traffic from popular search engines. Because search engines crawl sites based on text and keywords, flash and JaveScript content is not easy to index and create confusion with the spiders.

Select Proper Colors

Wild colors used in web sites are unpleasant and restrain web navigation. Light text should not be placed on dark backgrounds. The background color should be lighter than the text to make it easy to read. You want the text to be easy on the eye and simple to read.

Navigation is Key

Design your site from the users prospective. Most customers are visiting your site with a main goal and this goal should be easily achieved without any confusion.

Use CSS

CSS simplifies your web design and allows you present your web content in a linear fashion. Regardless of where or how your text appears it will appear in a pleasant layout because of the CSS layout definitions. CSS assists you to arrange your content before the navigation link while still making it appear to the right or underneath it.
