On April 2nd, 2011, the Loop the Lake for Literacy ride will take place around Florida’s beautiful Lake Okeechobee. This event will benefit the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County and give residents the literacy skills that they need to succeed in life!
Non-Profit bike rides make for such a rewarding way to spend a few hours of your time and a great way for the family to enjoy the day.
Organized Charity Bike Rides
Charitable cycling rides are highly organized events; they feature marshals and volunteers to help you out should something go wrong, and to point you in the right direction when you’re not sure of your route. The best benefit is that the roads (if any) are closed allowing you to safely enjoy your ride without the dangers of traffic. Some charity bike ride organized will go so far as to close the route roads completely, while others will set up detours for other road users.
Not only are non-profit rides a great exercise, they are also for a great cause. If you can have a fun day out, and know that you're doing some good, it makes cycling even more rewarding.
Let’s not forget the health benefits: cycling is a very good cardiovascular activity, and if you cycle regularly then you can ride the longer routes (see Loop the Lake for Literacy for route details!) Many cycling events feature routes for beginners and steadily go up to advanced riders.
The final great benefit that goes along with non-profit cycling events is the community involvement. Not only are these events a great way to get out and meet new people from your community, they're a great boost to the community too.
